scrolling on touch screen laptop

when i scroll with the touch pad thingy below the keyboard on my laptop, you know by putting two fingers then sliding them down, the square that appears when you hold on your laptop touchscreen for more than 3 seconds appears at random places. when im scrolling down it happens at the top and when im scrolling up it happens at the bottom. I've even turned the touchscreen off and it still hasnt gone away. i held at the side of the page while scrolling but then it wont scroll at all. I'm sorry, i know i can scroll using touchscreen and the thing at the right side of the page, but im used to scrolling with the touchpad. help please!

Sounds like user error, but to be safe make sure you update all your drivers.
