Hello, all,

I can't make decision whether going with SCSI or Raid. I have been doing a lot of research for infomation about SCSI and Raid, however, I am still unclear which one of these will fit into my budget and use.

For the values of money, $550 for Adaptec SCSI Card 39160 + Fujitsu 36.7GB MAN3367MP, OR $280 for Promise FastTrack TX2000 + 2x60GB D740X 6L060L3

I would like to know how much different in terms of sustrain speed between SCSI and Raid?

I am doing a lot 3d graphic animation and A/V editing.
This is a system that i have built;

2xMP 1800+
Tyan Tiger MPX
IBM 60GB
16xDVD, 20xCDRW
512MB EEC registered
GF Ti 4400
Win2000 Pro

best regard,

somai

you can find now A/V ide as SCSI harddisks.

SCSI

pros
less use of the processor.
best A/V support.
rather superior overall performances
15 connectors available
best parallel transfer management (for multiple access on multiple SCSI peripherals)

cons
expensive hard disks
lower hard disks capacity
needs a SCSI card

RAID

pros
cheaper hard disks
high hard disks capacity
average A/V support.
good overall performances
possibility of raid 0 (stripping) or raid 1 (mirroring) or raid 0+1

cons
upper use of the processor.
just 4 connectors are available for raid

thus if you have the money for you can gotta SCSI otherwise RAID stays a good option for a home computer.

Thank you very much. i think that i will get SCSI even though it is very expensive.
Becuase, I am dealing with a lot of 3d animation rendering and AV rendering almost every day, which require a lot of CPUs used. This is why I am using daul cpus system.

Thank yoiu again
