From what I have seen, these entry level tower coolers do not work much better than the stock heatpipe style coolers such as the ones AMD provides with their high TDP CPU's. Heatpipes are not as efficient as a direct connection of the fins to the copper base. The reason is that they require a large delta between ambient and load temperature before reaching full efficiency. This is often why these coolers may not have the best idle temperatures. Other than seeking a quieter system, a user is better off spending a little more and getting a good 120-140mm tower cooler.
I see nothing special about this cooler considering it's the same price as a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Evo (Which has a true and tested design). If this was $20 USDcooler, that would be a different story.
Great to see old cooler veteran Scythe back in the game again.... the old Mugen 2 and 3 were great alternatives to the Hyper 212 with similar thermal performance but a better mounting mechanism, which resulted in less chance of damaging your MoBo.
