Hello - I've got a problem that just popped up today with one of my SD cards here's what happens:

I write files to the SD card successfully, I can access the files on the SD card (in this case video files and they play fine). When I remove the SD card from my PC and put it back in, the files have disappeared.

I've tried this with a separate laptop and the exact same thing happens, write files, access them, remove SD card - files are gone.

This only just started happening today, the SD card has been fine up till now - and there are files on the SD card that are there from before this started happening that do not disappear when the SD card is removed.

I'm baffled tbh, I would've thought if the card was dead it could no longer write/read at all, but it's just so strange that I can play the videos I copied over, but as soon as I remove the card they are gone. Can anyone offer any ideas on what is wrong with the card?

Thanks for your help.

No I'm not - over the many years I've used many, many different SD cards, that has never been an issue because they're hot-swappable. I think that's one of the main features of the format if I'm not mistaken. As long as the card isn't in use.

Hot swappable simply means it can be inserted and removed without powering down the system. You still should use the safe-to-remove feature to be sure the OS has written all the data to the card's memory chips. Not only do you risk losing the data by randomly inserting/removing the card w/o using the S-T-R feature, you risk corrupting the card.
