SD Card for Ready Boost

This is driving me nuts! I bought a low priced lap top, an Asus EEE PC 1215P. It was cheap and I didn't want to spend too much on one. It only had 1G of memory, which I increased to the max 2G, which helped quite a bit, but it is still running a little bit slower than I'd like. I want to use Readyboost to help it out, but I'm having trouble finding an SD card that will work in it. I tried a Patriot LX Series 16 GB Class 10 SDHC Flash Memory Card PSF16GSDHC10 which I thought would work fine for this, but Windows 7 said it was not suitable or something like that when I clicked the Readyboost option. I don't know why, as that is a pretty high speed card. I try doing a search for ReadyBoost compatible SD cards and lots of results come up, but none of them say anywhere on the page or on the card that they are ReadyBoost compatible. How can I find one that is and what size should I get?

readyboost requires 2.5MB/s 4k random read. most USB2 drives meet this requirement. i'm not sure if SD cards do, even class 10 ones, so that might be the problem. come to think of it i'm also not sure if readyboost can even use SD cards anyways. someone else may have an answer for that.

if you're just looking for a way to improve system performance then keep in mind that a SSD will by far outperform any readyboost.

I don't want to go as far as installing a new SSD. I just got the laptop and it is still under warranty, so aside from the cost factor, it would void the warranty as well I suspect. I want to use an SD card because it does not stick out of the computer as well, so I won't have to pull it out every time I put the computer away.

And how do I do that? If you mean testing it, I don't have one to test. And as far as looking for one online, there is not much information given, such as access times. That's why I'm asking on the forum, to see if anybody knows of one that will work. I already bought one I thought would work and it didn't.

try formatting it with exfat or ntfs. w/ 4k allocation.... u can check it by going to powershell.. syntax:
winsat disk -read -ran -ransize 4096 -drive ?:
mine reads only 1.96mb but i can use it. i remember one guy who recommende idling the system first. the less idle the system the better the result. try me also sometime it can sometimes it cant, i use class 6 sandisk

I'm using a 4GB class 6 microSDHC card in a SD adapter in the SD slot in my ASUS 1000H netbook with 2GB RAM and Win7 - as previous link to Microsoft - you can just plug it in, maybe R click properties of the drive, go to the ReadyBoost tab and select Dedicate this drive to ReadyBoost, and it will check whether it's fast enough. It will also keep a little space for something else, as the maximum space you can dedicate will be slightly less than the full capacity - mine shows 6MB free of 4GB capacity.

I think my class 2 SD cards were rejected as not fast enough, and anything more than 4GB is unlikely to improve performance in my case - for reasons I forgot - maybe something like it won't use more than twice your RAM size ...

I think it improves performance - as a cache - I haven't run any tests - may try SiSoft removable media test ...

reading other sites, I suspect my ASUS 1000H doesn't recognise the SD card slot as a bootable port for loading/storing the operating system, and I've been reading lots of other info saying Avoid using an SD for an O/S ...

apparently Class 4 sdmc cards will work if you have a class 10 there is a hack to make that work, open regedit, START BUTTON Search box at bottom enter REGEDIT then this path...

HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows NT, current version, EDMgmt

you will see several SDMC cards that begin with ?? (2 question marks) right click on all of these and delete the entries.

restart windows wirh SDMC card in slot now re open regedit and fololow same path

HKEY_LOCAL-MACHINE,SOFTWARE,Microsoft,Windows NT,current version,EDMgmt
there will be a new entry at the top of the list with 2 ?, this is your card, select it then select device ststus and change the entry from 1 to 2
close regedit
now you have a class 10 card running capable of READYBOOST
