1) with sd card in reader, when I try to open it shows "please insert a disk into sdhc (G, tho when I go to task bar to safely remove sd card, it shows the option to eject sdhc (G....... why doesn't it know there is already an sd card inserted?
2) now i click to safely remove and eject card. Now I re-insert sd card into reader and get this message window. "g:/ The directory name is invalid".
3) with sd card still inserted, i open properties. On the General tab there is no volume label (blank),Type: USB drive, File System: (blank), Used space and Free space are both 0 (tho in Capacity, by color code it represents the drive is completely full. (This SDHC card has been formatted and checked for errors on another computer) Hardware tab shows: SDHC Card and type is Disk Drive. Device Properties: Manufacturer: (Standard disk drives), Location is 0, Device status: This device is working properly.
4) Now click the Properties button. General Tab just repeats info already reported. Volumes tab has no info. Driver tab: I am convinced this has nothing to do with drivers as I have searched the internet, rolled back and have been to realtek website for their download of best driver. None of these options have changed any of my diagnostic results. I think this is a hardware problem or a setting problem. Every suggestion I've found by describing this problem on google has not worked.I have also physically disconnected the drive cable from the motherboard and re-installed.
5) Disk Management: With sd card in reader G: is not listed in the top half. It is in the bottom half as Disk 2, removable G:, 28.97 GB, online. Then in the next column: 28.97 GB UNALLOCATED. When I right click this column and try to change the drive letter, it says: "the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Now I will remove the SD card from the reader and insert in into the SD reader of a connected printer. Still in disk management that same sd card is now displayed in the H: drive on the top half. On the bottom half it's shown as Disk 3, Removable, 28.97 GB, Read only. In the next column is shows H:, 28.97 GB FAT 32, Healthy (Primary Partition)
6) Just one more thing. Device Manager: All of my drives are shown under some kind of device, whether or not they have a disk inserted. My card reader and drive only appear when the sd card is inserted. I also do get notification and asked what action to take when I insert the sd card into the reader, but my only option of actions is to "configure storage settings" when i click that option,"g:/ The directory name is invalid" So what do you think? Hardware problem? I've ordered a new card reader component but I'm worried that when I install it, I'll have the same problem.
