See attached screenshot if necessary, I had a problem for a couple weeks where Windows Update wouldn't complete. Someone suggested in the following thread to try sfc and DISM,

That fixed the Windows Update problem but now whenever I right click Spybot in my taskbar to Update/Scan it, I get the following pop up.
I reinstalled Spybot and it updates and scans as it should (and did before the reinstall), although now when I click Fix Selected after a scan it takes much longer to show green checkmarks and competed - (they're all just the same minimal/low risk things it finds every scan - I scan spybot and Defender daily basically).

it was popping up at more random times I think a few days ago when this started but now it seems to only pop up when I use spybot.

I'm thinking I should maybe do a 'reinstall Windows without losing files/setting's/
I'll external back up first just to be safe, but I think last time I tried that some years ago, it still required quite a bit of setting etc tweaks to get things back to how there were?

thanks

I would advise on backing up all mission critical content off of your drive, then fabricating your bootable USB installer with Windows Media Creation Tools, reinstalling the OS in offline mode, then manually installing all relevant drivers in an elevated command, then running an update on the OS.

SFC/DISM and system restores are all workaround to a glitch within the OS. I tend to recreate the bootable installer to rule out a corruption within the installer. A BIOS update on your(if pending) on your platform would be a good idea prior to reinstalling the OS.

Thanks, I ended up just doing the Recovery Reset PC without losing files without needing my OEM OS flashdrive or anything, I still backed up all my files etc but this does as it says removes all apps (programs) but I didn't have much installed, I hadn't done this in like 5 years so hopefully it runs faster now too. I reinstalled spybot and don't get any error codes or anything but yes google is saying malwarebytes is better overall so I'll use that in conjuction with Defender , spybott and defender I've never had a virus or anything on this PC but I barely download anything 3rd party or anything.

PC is an i7-4790k not overclocked with a good PSU, upgraded heatsink, decent GPU (got screwed on price though during the crypto mining era) etc is about a $2,400 total build built around 2013 still going strong.

When Steam (video games etc) is uninstalled, I ususually use a burner email to set that up and if I need to use any credit card to buy a game for some reason I like to just use a prepaid debit so my card can't get pinged for anything later, but most emails disappear in ~6 months if not active and logging back into steam after a while it requires an email code verification which lost my account last time because I didn't have the email still but my Steam account is under 6 months old and I'll reassign it to my other burner email which I use for like contact-us etc that I don't let expire.
However yes the Refresh does reset a lot of things I have noted so far like:

double click to open file need to switch to one click

resolution of desktop (see what had before refresh)

wordwarp on notepad

take screenshot of control panel programs to reinstall, (it made a MS Edge/Chrome file of these for me though).

switch taskbar setting to not hide labels (shows the name of file etc that is open instead of just icon), show what to display in taskbar like windows security yes but not meet now etc stupid sh*t also in apps delete as much as possible of all those unnecessary news weather etc.

luckily when you import bookmarks file it also sets the top bar to be how want with the Settings and Bookmarks, eBay email etc all up there but settings have to adjust slightly so it clears cookies from all time etc in Advanced tab.

type location in start and change so location isn't shared

start menu Privacy make sure isn't shared but wasn't, but General tab deactivate let websites access my language list etc look around all those settings
