Really confused between the two drives. It's an urgent purchase, looking for something reliable.
Please do not suggest the Caviar Black, as it is out of my budget.
Will get an SSD soon.

seagates have historically been very good though they have had some embarrassments in recent history ('09) with bad drives in the 1 terabyte range....personally i would go western digital. though i admittingly own a seagate...i use to have two and the other died last week after 3 years of life (not bad not great). so hope that helps some.

I have zeroed in on the Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200.14
The biggest problem is, how can I know, if the drive is 7200.12 (older gen) or the 7200.14 (latest gen)
