seagate 1tb ext. drive not working

i bought a new seagate 1tb external hard drive, when i plug it into my 2016 asus laptop i cant find it under this pc to load files. it will power up and i can find it in the device manager but that just shows the information on it. is there some setting i need to change somewhere?

Check in drive manager to see if it's formatted and has a drive letter assigned. You may need to assign it a drive letter manually.

Test it with another computer see if it shows up there.
