I have the same, Seagate Backup Plus, and had the same issue ever since I updated to Windows 10. According to the Seagate website, it should be compatible with Windows 10, when you have the software version 4.2 or up (http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/006200en?language=en-se). For some reason, Windows 10 automatically downloaded 4.0.21.0 on mine and kept saying that was the most up to date version. I uninstalled that, and installed 4.4 from the Seagate website (http://www.seagate.com/support/software/dashboard/), and it seems to now be working.
Hey there, Peter-joe!

I'd recommend you to use your HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool to test the drive's health and SMART status. You should be able to find this utility on their official website. I'd also suggest you to try using a different USB cable with the portable HDD and see if that will improve its performance. If you haven't done this already, I'd also uninstall and reinstall the external as a device (in Device Manager) on your computer.

Hope it helps. Keep me posted!

hi super soph.

I've tried using there tools unfortunately it makes them un responsive too. ref a different USB cable I cant see how that would help as the computer is recognising it and there's power going to the hard drive, but don't want really want to spend money on a new cable to find out its knackered. yeah I tried uninstalling the hard drive but it just keeps on running left it for about an hour uninstalling yesterday. so just restarted the whole computer.

if you have any other ideas please post....thanks for the help though
