It does show up in the "disk management" section, although, it shows that it's completely free, which it isn't. Have checked driver updates etc and is apparently all ok. Running Win 8.1 if it makes any difference.

Had it a while now and have done that already, using win 8.1

when your drive is connected, does it comes up under Disk Management? what about BIOS?

shows up under disk management but it can only tell there is a drive there not the fact it has stuff on it. I'm not real computer literate, so unsure about BIOS, how would I check?

So the driver shows under Disk Management, So, you need to format the drive. Right click where it says (Disk #) look for the 4TB drive and select format, then select GPT. what windows are you using? and where was that drive before?

Doesn't show in BIOS, and this is how it appears in Disk Management.

Correct.

I had tried that the other day also but all I get is this...(no options)

thats weird. I will suggest hooking that drive to another computer and try to format and see what happens.
