Hey everyone. Saw some similar threads but nothing exactly mirroring my issue. My setup is as follows:

Win 10 64 bit EUFI, ASRock H97 Anniversary motherboard with latest bios 1.6. 250GB system SSD and 4tb Seagate USB external both formatted as GPT.

I've tried about everything and Windows only sees 465 GB available on the USB drive. Pretty much at a loss and looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance!

If you bought it from ebay, and the shipping address was China and the price was just a little too good, then absolutely yes its possible its a 500gb drive. BTW, you usually have 2 weeks from date of sale to file for refund. Oh. Took 3 weeks to ship...

But seriously, it can happen from anywhere that's not a certified vendor it's happened with Amazon resellers, newegg marketplace etc.

Since it's still blank, you could try diskpart it (or similar) it's possibly a used drive and the format is only picking up on the one drive letter, not the whole drive.

Hmm yes! Good answer that. Checking serial/model numbers.

Ironically I got it from Walmart lol. Of course it is the simplest solution first...doh. I reluctantly pulled the drive and googled the part number (ironically an HP one??!!) and sure enough came up as a 500 GB drive. Thanks for suggesting what I wish was my first step, not trusting the label and assuming the issue was on my end! Appreciate the replies gents!

Oh, you got a second hand part? Walmart is known for selling something, like a 4Tb hdd, ppl take it home, slap a 500Gb back on the box and take it back to Walmart. The girls behind the counter are clueless to the swap, they just look to see an it in the box that looks new. Grand total, someone spent $40 for a 500Gb, swapped boxes and ended up with a $40 4Tb hdd.
