Hi,

i know samsung is top for ssd,
but i hope mix samsung with other brand nvme to use together.

yesterday,i check seagate 520 and 530 have higher tbw and other brands,
do you ever use them ? because i check amazon, not so much people use them,
and i search some articles are marketing review by blogger.

i care if it is stable becasue i want to make linux software raid for 7*24 server.

thanks

Hi,

yes,i want to use two nvme ssd with raid1,
by the way,i can have nvme's speed but also have more protect .

thanks
RAID 1 is not a backup.
It only sort of protects against physical drive death. It does absolutely nothing for all the other means of data loss.

Any RAID 1 also needs a real backup.
And if you can suffer through 30-45 minutes of downtime to recover from the backup, you don't need the RAID 1.

What is this system used for?

You generally hear very little about Seagate SSDs on this site or most others.

Not sure why that is other than apparently poor marketing at the retail level. Maybe the home user retail market isn't a high priority for Seagate.

Hi,

yes,i just wonder how reliability about the seagate 520 and 530,

because i also see rare review about 510,
but just two bad review about 510 that freezed when running.

thanks

Hi,

i make backup on other server daily,
i do not think raid1 as backup.
as you said,
i just hope keeping data alive with raid1 when certain one nvme fail,
and i can replace a new nvme to swap it and resync.

i want to use it for webserver,
i use sata ssd with mdadm now,
but i hope to get better speed,
so,i want to use nvme.

thanks

I would not draw any conclusions based on a couple of reviews. They are nothing but anecdotes.

You will find it very difficult to find any worthwhile data about SSD reliability by brand or model name. I've never heard of any large scale study. Lots of anecdotes and contentions, largely driven by fan boys or someone's personal good or bad experience.

A webserver?
To serve what, exactly?

NVMe may well be totally not needed.

Physical drive death is pretty rare. A RAID 1 is mostly a waste of resources.

Have more protect against what?

Hi,

i mean,if i just use one nvme to store the data,
when the nvme fail,
all the data gone and systenm fail.

when i use raid 1,when certain one driver fail,
the system can still work and i can swap a new nvme asap.
it is what i say "protect".

thanks

i agree, but there are rare review about them,

thanks

I have a 2 TB Intel 660P, but it is for data ONLY.

My operating system is still on a 6 or 7 year old Crucial MX100. If I were to upgrade my OS drive right now, I'd probably get a WD 750 or 850 or maybe a Samsung 970 EVO Plus.

But I have little reason to believe any of my choices are "more reliable" or "noticeably better performers". It's all just guesswork and I could have a horrible experience with any of them. No way out of that dilemma.
