seagate 7200.10 reliable?

ok, so i'm taking apart an old server, and looking at what parts i can put in the parts bin and which parts are going to the scrap yard.

i'm pulling out 3 seagate 7200.10 drives, 160G each. could be used as OS drives in random computers. but they're old. how reliable were those drives overall? i can find reviews, but of new drives.

They sound familiar from a long time ago. IIRC they were pretty reliable. If they were in a server I'd expect to get some good mileage out of them.

Generally old home HD's i would toss, but those should be reliable.

Any Seagate HD is terrible and unreliable. You're better off zeroing out those crappy HDs and selling them.

I have two 7200.10 Seagate 250GB drives that were used in my mid '00 P4 and C2Q builds. They still run, but age and massive amounts of read/write cycles have slowed the drives down and increased access time to ~22ms. My 320GB WD Blue PATA drive does better in benchmarks than my 2x7200.10 RAID0.

Don't think they're worth more than pocket change.

I can't think of a reason to use an old 160GB HDD as a main in any computer, unless it's really just a what-the-hell throwaway machine.

Will they work? Probably.
How long will they continue to work is the question. They are already very old.
I wouldn't put anything critical on them.
