bought a $20 SATA adapter and that didn't help...plug it in..runs for 10sec. then stops.. unbelievable..had external HD for 1 year & didnt get a chance to back it up..lost over a 1,000 movies ..and seagate will charge me for there damaged HD plus recovery for over $600 ...i dont think so..going to try some local pc help..if not gotta start from scratch ...sucks

pittro,

A google search will tell you what the error means.

This error occurs if a device that was previously connected to the computer is no longer connected. To resolve this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. No resolution is necessary. This error code is only used to indicate the disconnected status of the device and does not require you to resolve it. The error code resolves automatically when you connect the associated device to the computer, says Microsoft.

just before i was about to pay for a recovery or HDD fix...i took one last look if i did have a back up somewhere ...unbelievable i found an old WD book in the back of my closet from last yr & now I'm happy again..it had 3/4 of the movie's i lost !!! Now i'm definitely going to do some serious BACK up..

That is awesome news!!! Keep in mind the following for the future.

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example)
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster. Let's say an asteroid strikes your house or a tornado hits it, you want a copy somewhere else so you can retrieve it.
