Seagate Backup HD reformatted from iOS to Windows? Is there any way to retrieve Mac data?

My Seagate Backup HD was originally formatted with my Macbook. My son took the external and reformatted to his Wii U device. Went to plug in my Mac and now says it's not recognizable by this computer - initilalize, ignore or eject? Needless to say, I'm furious with the son. Is there any way to recover my Macbook data? Thanks for any fb.

Data that was erased but not completely overwritten would be recoverable to some extent. Data that was formatted for a Wii is probably gone. IF this is business critical data you could contact of the very expensive professional recovery companies for an estimate and prognosis.

Sorry to say your external drive should have been backed up somewhere.
