my new computer has 2 usb 3 ports at the front and 4 at the back. i have found that some of the ports seem faster than others when i transfer a movie from my pc to the backup slim and some even start to transfer then stop half way through and one will not work at all . i tested this with the same movie on all ports with mixed results and came to the conclusion that i had faulty usb ports . the Seagate worked fine on my old hp envy desktop. i did the same test with a sandisk extreme usb flash drive and it works fine on all the ports with a speed of 165 mbs and the one that the seagate did work on only got about 80mbs . i have ordered a new usb wire that connects the seagate to the pc to see if it helps. i have also checked the drive for errors and its fine. i did notice that while the seagate was connected to my pc and the file transfer window was open showing me the file had stopped half way through it made my windows 10 start button unresponsive and my clock on the bottom right of the desktop vanished and it would not even let me shut the pc down so i had to use the reset button on the stryker case , after it rebooted the pc was fine until i tried another movie transfer using the seagate and the same unresponsiveness happened again

can someone please tell me what is going on with the seagate . are my usb 3 connections faulty ? like i said before i had no problem on my hp envy's usb 3 ports. my new pc is made by zoostorm and has the new intel i7 6700k Skylake with a asrock z170 pro4s motherboard and 32 gb of gskill 2400mhz ram and a gtx 980TI gpu and its all fitted in a coolermaster stryker case . i just thought i should mention the spec if it helps to sort out my problem . thanks in advance

Hi there tredstone,

I would agree with popatim and say that it would be nice to start with just testing the drive with a brand specific tool. Also, it may be a good idea to back up the crucial data stored on the drive until you sort this out.
Apart from that, as the drive works just fine on your laptop, then most probably there is something wrong with your system.
Are you facing the same issue when the drive is attached to the USB 3.0 ports on the back of the computer case? They are directly attached to the MOBO. There may be something wrong with the front panel.
Also, you go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers(especially the USB 3.0 ones).

thanks for your reply , i downloaded the seagate utility and checked the drive for errors and it passed . i have tried the seagate in every usb port with mixed results but when i use the sandisk usb 3 extreme flashdrive it works in all of the usb 3 sockets . there is one usb3 at the back of the pc and the seagate will not work in that but the sandisk extreme flashdrive works perfectly . my motherboard is a asrock z170 pro4s and i have been on the website and i downloaded live update software and it gives me these options but i dont know which one to choose or if these options are the right ones i should be looking at. i have never done this before so its all new to me. the front two usb3 ports work fine with the seagate . i have checked the download page on the asrock website and under downloads tab there are no updates for the usb running windows 10
