Hello,
I just bought a Seagate Barracuda 1TB hard drive to use as a secondary drive just for storage. Unfortunately when I'm copying files over to it after about 20 minutes i get "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." After that I can still go inside the drive with windows explorer but i can't go beyond 2 folders deep. I can only make the drive work again by restarting my computer and after that i can access all the data i was copying over to it.

The strange part for me is when I had copied over 100gb data over to it and it froze on me about 3 times before i gave up but when i copied all that data back to me it didn't freeze on me. After that I used a full format on it which took about 2 hours and it didn't freeze. Then i tried copying files to it again and it froze after a while. So my conclusion is the drive freezes only when i'm copying files to it i can copy files from it without it freezing. Basically I need to figure out what the problem is and if i can fix it or i need to return it back to the store.

I am running Windows 7 x64.

Hello,
I have tested it with
Fix all fast
SMART Check
Short drive self test
Drive information
Short generic and they all pass. The other tests
Fix all slow
Long Generic take a very long time and i haven't finished it yet. I have a question the advanced tests say it could make the drive unusable for my system. Does this mean it carries a risk of permanently breaking the drive?

My motherboard is a very old Asus P5QL motherboard and both its firmware version and chipset drivers are the latest and I didn't have the Sata configured as AHCI. I have found out i can't disable write chaching on my secondary drive. I don't know if it helps or not. I'm still running SeaTools
