Bought a Seagate Barracuda Drive from a friend still in static bag who said it was from a pc shop that was shutting down. Fitted it to my pc running Wind 7 drive on screen went to disc manager to format and noticed that drive capacity was showing 18625.00GB capacity which works out as 18.625TB yet it's only a 2TB drive ant ideas what's

Problem now sorted seems to have been data left on hard drive from being used as part of a sever setup formatting through disc manager deleting everything including drive letter about 6 times put things right now hard drive shows correct TB capacity and when files are added goes down in a more realistic way
Thanks to every one who posted
Hi there murdockman,

You need to go to BIOS and see what is the capacity of the drive over there. If BIOS doesn't show the right capacity, then most probably there is something wrong with the drive.
Apart from that, I would advise you to reseat the drive. Attaching it to another port with different cables will not hurt as well.
What Lucias OKeeffe suggested is another thing you can do(even write zeros).

Cheers,

Have formatted the drive completely from disk manager but it still shows the capacity as 18.625.00 GB for the drive when format box comes on screen when you click on capacity the drop down bar still shows same value which you cannot seem to change

Hello
Thanks for info still showing 18,1Tb but have run all Seagate tools on the drive Eg Fix All S.M.A.R.T. Check Short Drive Self Test Short Generic and Long Generic (that's why this reply is so late sorry) and has passed every time so assume it's ok to use looked at runtime hours and it's only 24 also l looked at drive in BIOS and it does show that it's a 2000GB but even after a format again on windows it still shows 18.1 TB, not sure if I should format on BIOS not 100% sure how to do that

You wont ever get the advertised specs from any hard drive. At least from my experience you won't.
I also own a Seagate Barracuda 2TB hard drive and its 1.81 instead of 2,000. I don't think there is any way to resolve that issue though

Hi Frankie_Xenon
Having less space is NOT the problem the hard drive is showing 18 .1 TB capacity not 1.81 TB if it was this I would not have posted anything, when I transferred around 250GB files onto the said hard drive free space went from 18.1TB to 18.0TB free space I think the problem seems to be with windows 7 not showing correct drive size
