So here is the situation. I had a external HDD (Seagate FreeAgent) that took a fall. I removed the internal drive (Seagate Barracuda 3000GB HDD), reset the drive head and inserted it into my ORICO 2.5 & 3.5 inch SATA3.0 USB3.0 External Hard Drive Dock and it read the drive as RAW but showed the data. I was using testdisk 7 to try to recover the data. I had to unplug the drive and when I plugged it back in the drive is spinning up, I hear the notification sound, but it is not showing up anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't do anything in software here to fix things, need a data recovery place to get things off the drive. Drop + opening drive = nothing software can fix. They may need to move the platters to another enclosure to read them.
Hi there jhnyblayze,

Unfortunately, most probably the drive has sustained some physical damage.

So you have opened the drive itself right? If this is the case and if the data stored on the drive is really important, my suggestion would be to unplug the drive and contact a data recovery company. By opening the drive, you have exposed the platters to dust contaminated environment.

Apart from that, if you don't want to go with the data recovery option, you can:
- Try using different data recovery tools.
- Attach the drive internally or use a different docking station in order to rule some connection related problem out.
Keep in mind that if the drive has some mechanical problem, the more you use it and access it, the greater the chance of data loss. Also, you will not be able to access it with software tools.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,

Yes, i opened the drive itself, but it was done in a clean box and after that was accomplished the drive spun up and recognized, but as i said it was recognized as raw data. After trying to clone the drive with a software tool the drive is now not being recognized. Nothing else changed other than trying to clone the drive.
