So, my old Transcend Storejet hard drive failed after about 9 years. I imaged the drive and now I am back on the market for new hard drive. To better understand what I need:
  1. I won't use the drive a lot. Maybe 1-2 times a year for small transfers from my laptop.
  2. It won't be moved around - it will stay at home in a box, so portability isn't a problem
  3. I want something I can trust to keep my data safe - something reliable
  4. Transfer speed isn't a priority since I will use it only for family photos and videos.
  5. And last but not least I don't want something extremely expensive.
For now I like these two drives:
WD Elements - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elements-Portable-External-Drive-WDBU6Y0050BBK-WESN/dp/B07X41PWTY/?tag=georiot-trd-21&ascsubtag=trd-7617718093022447127-20

Both are good drives and the price is pretty good. They both are products of the biggest HDD companies.

Now the question... Which drive is better an why? Any thoughts??

It's a tie and the results depend on your luck with a sample size of one.

Just be sure to always safe eject the drive, as that is a leading cause of data loss -- disconnection or power loss with an external USB drive still writing.

the Seagate has one advantage, it doesn't use an integrated USB port.
so it can be connected up like any SATA drive if you have to remove it from it's housing.
(albeit double-height)

It doesn't matter anymore. I ordered the WD one. It has better customer reviews in every site I looked in. Plus around 3 people from another forums recommend it to me.
