Seagate external harddrive

Hello,
I just purchased a seagate expansion external desktop drive and i would like to find out if i need to format it before i use it. How do I know if it is already formatted or not

Under windows, an unformatted drive will be request for your permission to format when you try to open the drive. That way you can determine if your drive requires formatting or has come preformatted from the factory.

+1! If it shows up in explorer and you can write files to it, it is formated.
