Seagate external HDD not reading on Mac but fine on Windows?

Firstly I would like to say that it is formatted for exFAT so that it will work on both windows and mac.

When i got my HDD i formatted it to exFAT so i could use it both my macbook and my windows computer. The external hdd got dropped from a small height and it still worked fine on windows but on mac it would not read. I reformatted the drive and it temporarily solved the problem but now im stuck with it not reading, occasionally it will read but then after my macbook goes to sleep and wakes up it wont read again. Has anybody else had this problem of have any idea on how to solve it, ive been in touch with seagate and they say that it is just a formatting issue and not a problem with the HDD.

Hi there lukethompson,

As you've dropped the drive, it may be a good idea to back up the data stored on it.

Once you've done that, you can check its health status out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Have you tried using the drive in FAT32 format? See if the issue persists. (back up first)
