Hi,
I have this USB3 external HDD from seagate. I've been using it normally for about 1 year.

Today I plugged it in and it won't spin up.
It is not the power supply (other HDD works on it)
Will the warranty be voided if I open the case to plug the HDD direct to the sata?
Have anybody seen a problem like this?

Solution
Hi there Azevedo,

Is the data accessible?
In case it is, you can just get some third party enclosure. I believe the warranty is voided anyway.
Regarding the PCB board, I'm not really sure whether you will be able to swap that. My suggestion would be to contact the manufacturer's support on that.

Cheers,

I disassembled it. The case board where the USB3 and the 12v plug are connected seems to be dead. The HDD works if connected directly to the sata cable. Is there a way to revive that case circuit board?
Seagate - never again!

Hey d_know,
The case PCB board, when it failed, it screw up the partitions in the HDD and I lost all the data.
I connected it directly to the sata and it is ok now. But all the data is gone.

I have a 2Gb WD Caviar Green twice older than this seagate and it still is running 100%.
I'm done with seagate. Here in Brazil seagate support is totally rubbish.

Thanks
