I have a Lenovo y520 laptop, when i scanned for updates using lenovo vantage it said that seagate firmware update is a critical update, but i read only that it's risky and may destroy my hard drive or lose all my data, and can't backup my data at this period, so is it really not safe to install it without backup? should i? is it that important?
also i have a constant 100% disk usage most of the time even when im not doing anything, will installing the update help?

If it says it is critical, it probably is. But I wouldn't run any firmware update without a good backup.
Then again, I don't turn my PC's on without a good backup.
