It was working well, suddenly overloaded and froze, with power light blinking. I disconnected it, restarted the PC and, once cold, reconnected again the Free Agent. Now Free Agent power light is on but ask to be formatted (warning that I do it all my stored data will be lost), obviously, is not being identified by the PC Desktop. Tried many unsuccessful Recovery Data Applications and need your help to find the cheapest best solution. Thanks in advance!

I had the same exact issue with a WD MYBOOK.

I cracked it open and then attached the main drive directly to my PC. That worked and all my data was there.

I can't guarantee that will work but the alternative is to replace under Warranty which does guarantee a new drive but you won't have the chance to recover any data.

Hey there, joesmc13!

I'd suggest to check your HDD manufacturer's website for a diagnostics utility. Download it and test your drive's health and check the S.M.A.R.T. status.
I'd also suggest to try with a different USB cable or on another computer and see how the external will react there.
Also, can you open Disk Management and tell me if you see the drive there and what is the status?

Keep me posted! :)
