Seagate GoFlex external drive not recognized in file explorer.

I have a Seagate GoFlex external hard drive (1TB) that was dropped and the drive became disconnected from the adapter. I replaced the adapter because a piece broke off not letting it be connected securely to the drive itself anymore. The drive is connected to my PC (Win10)

This initially worked great, but after a couple of hours the drive was no longer accessible. I can still hear the drive spinning inside the enclosure but the capacity indicator lights on the front no longer turn on. The drive does show in 'Disk drives' in my device manager. Also, the computer will lag and cause my file explorer to freeze when the drive is plugged in. Everything works fine when the drive is no longer connected. I have tried connecting the drive to another computer and also using another power supply and usb cable, but get the same issues

I would like for professional data recovery to be a last resort. I was in the process of backing up the drive to begin with and was able to copy a few files over but there are still a lot ore files that I'd rather not lose. I read that there could possibly just be a problem with the enclosure itself and that the drive could still be salvageable by simply putting it in a new enclosure. I'd like to get a bit more information before taking the time to do that if it will be of no help.

I'm a bit of a noob with this so if there is any other information I need to provide, let me know. Any help is appreciated.

Solution
Hello garrytyson, the drive most definitely suffered some internal damage and that is why you are having this problem. If you value your data, do not try to switch it to a new enclosure, this could destroy the drive entirely and you wont be able to salvage the data thus making the recovery process a lot more expensive. We do offer In Lab Recovery service in case you decide to go that way.

Another alternative you can try is the Recovery Software as a DIY. Best of luck!
