i knocked my 2 tb hard drive off a coffee table and it hit the hard floor. the computer makes the sound that its plugged in but doesnt recognize it when i go to my computer. is there away to recover the info or is it lost to me?
If the information is that important that you are willing to spend, then the solution above is what is.
Otherwise, there is a wrap-drive-in-towel-and-wack-it-on-the-table method on the Internet that some people have said it resuscitated their drives. I do not know the success rate.
p.s.: Is this an external drive? If so, and you are lucky, maybe just a jarred cable.
In case the data on the drive is really important, you shouldn't try to recover it by yourself. Even powering it up may not be a good idea.
Most of the HDD manufacturers provide their own data recovery services or have some trusted data recovery partners. You can check that out.
