As the title says, this HDD was bought last september and it seems already halfway through it's rated load / unload cycles? Is that normal.

While I do have backups for the important stuff, I would very much like to avoid the annoyance of losing the whole drive in a couple of months, so if there's anything i can do to calm down this loading/unloading madness I'd like to do that.

The drive has lost 48 (= 100 - 52) points after 0x17B60 load/unload cycles.

  • 0x17B60 / 48 x 100 = 202333
    0x17B60 / 49 x 100 = 198204

Therefore it would appear that this SMART attribute is programmed to hit the threshold at 200,000 cycles.

If you are concerned, you could adjust the drive's APM settings.

  • 0x1067 hours / 0x17B60 cycles = 2.59 minutes per cycle

Well, I don't know much about this stuff, so as long as the values don't look worrying in general I think I'm ok with it (I assume editing the APM settings would take a lot of bios level fiddling that I don't trust myself with doing :coldsweat:)

Thanks for the help
