I know that some people may say that this is just normal read and write but it constantly grinds whenever I use the computer. During startup is the only time I could catch it grinding. The sound it makes during startup is the same whenever I use the computer. I've read some articles and comments saying that it's normal or some say that I should replace it immediately. Here is the video of it. Should I replace the Hard Drive? At 0:30 on the video you can see that the plates that hold the hard drive are slightly different. The one on the left is curved and the one on the right is square. Is this affecting the HDD? Or does it doesn't matter and the problem is the HDD itself? Also, I ran the SeaTools Long test a couple weeks ago on the DOS and it had 2 errors it got fixed and there wasn't a problem since. However, today, I ran the SeaTools short test and it failed.

Specs:
i5 2320
8 gb DDR3 Ram
1 TB Seagate HDD
Windows 10 Pro

Hi there zambreks,

The first thing you should really do is to back up the data stored on the drive. :)

This is an old drive right? Is it under warranty?

Taking into account that the drive fails the brand specific tests and the fact that it makes some unusual sounds, then I believe it would be best to just replace it.

You can get a new drive for your OS and important data and use this one for storing non crucial stuff. (if it operates well)

It will not hurt to attach the drive to another SATA port with different cables. Yet, I think there's something wrong with the HDD itself.

Cheers,

It is usually a sign of an aging harddrive, although its not really an indicator that the drive is going to fail, i would recommend using crystaldisk or some other application to check the health of the HDD. That being said it is never a bad idea to have a backup harddrive.
