I bought a hard disk (seagate 2TB) 5 days ago which worked fine until yesterday. But when i plugged it to the windows machine , it shows up in the disk management, not initialized. When i try to initialize it says "fatal device hardware error". Diskpart detects but Cant wipe the device. It shows 0B used, 0B free space,
device online. Minitool data recovery stops while scanning the device. On Linux machine, it shows in the disk utility, just shows with no option to mount or format or edit partitions. It doesn't show up in Gparted. With dmesg it shows I/O error. I don't care the data on the hdd. Want to be formatted or hardwiped. Help

Not used on a Linux or MAC machine, which would give it an unrecognizable partition.

Ah, I saw your update -- if you used it on Linux I would use Linux to repartition the drive and if you don't have a current Linux partition just use a Live drive like Mint on a USB stick.

Nope, you just may have a partition on it that Windows will not recognize or work with, although the drive could still have problems, you won't know until you attach it to a Linux build instead of Windows.

I have a linux machine. Even Linux just recognises, a drive unde /dev/sdb. But nautilus, gparted or fdisk don't find it. The disk utility shows the drive but gives no option to format edit or mount partitions. Dmesg command shows I/o error. Can i do anything with it?
