How do I reinstall my Seagate drive without losing my data? My research says that the windows 7 should already detect the drive but it doesn't. The Seagate website expounds at length ad nauseam on the ease of reformatting their drives. It seems to never have occurred to the seagate folks that their drives might be used for backup and thus be needed in unchanged condition when a OS reinstall is performed. Of course I might have missed something and that is the subject of my search. What did I miss? Perhaps the seagate website has the procedure I need. If so it should be easier to find.

does the drive show up under windows drive management??
if it does most time all you have to do is give it a drive letter.
with a clean install of the os and drives. check that the seagate is on the intel or amd sata port. if you used the acmedia port make sure the port turned on in the bios and the driver is installed. those third party ports are make for data drives. also check that the drive has power and it moving.
