[SOLVED] Seagate Skyhawk 1tb doesn't work with usb3.0 to Sata connector. Is it because the 4 extra pins have nothing in them?

I recently bought a seagate skyhawk 1tb hard drive and nothing appeared when I plugged it into my usb 3.0 to sata connector (which was plugged into my laptop). The 4 extra pins have nothing in them, is this why it isn't working? If not, why else wouldn't it be working?

A 3.5" HDD cannot run from only a USB cable. That does not provide the needed 12v.

You need a wall powered SATA-USB dock, such as this:
