I have had 2 Seagate hard drives fail me. Both are separate computers. One was 3 1/2 - 4 years old, the other was 1 years old. They were different models. I have 2 computers, both have wd hard drives, both are over 10 years old.

It's the luck of the draw - you have had three lucky experiences and one bad one.

I wouldn't depend on a a 3½ to 4 year old disk for my system because that's the age they start to go downhill. Your two ten year olds are very rare and the one you lost out on at a year old was simply bad luck.

When I demote a system disk, it becomes second backup, the first being a brand new disk.
