I recently bought a 5tb Seagate external for my desktop. I currently have a 1tb HDD and a 250gb SSD and was looking to back everything up as my 1tb is almost full. I plugged in the external started windows backup and let it sit overnight. I woke up to check if everything went ok and it failed to backup. It gave me the that there was an I/O device error. I had no clue what that meant so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and tried again. I have tried a total of 15 times and it juist wont work. I have literally no idea what to do and it is past the return date becuase I got it as a gift. Any ideas or suggestions? I am using win7 home premium 64 btw.

Solution
Seems like the HDD might be faulty, try use this; http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

Make sure everything is fine with the HDD, if it is then perhaps try using a different backup software. Here's a list of the best 2015 free ones;http://pcsupport.about.com/od/backup/tp/free-backup-software.htm

Hope that helps and good luck, if you resolve the issue let me know or select a solution. :)
