So if windows update caused it, a weekly update may fix it as well. Its usually how it works.
Or you can try a repair install of Windows 11.
It might fix it.
What repair install would do is rolls win 11 back to how it was when you first installed it. All it does is removes all the patches to windows, it doesn't touch anything else on the PC.

You will still need to get all the patches again after but as I have latest 11 and don't have the search problem, it could just be a bad install.

How long has it been happening?

No search bar at all on start is different - https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-11-search-bar-not-showing-working-on/

So I guess you don't want the search button on taskbar? As I never use the one on start, since it just opens the other search window anyway

I wonder if its the result of a windows update. I am helping someone else with search where it just goes blank if they try.

can try this but it generally doesn't help with search

right click start button

choose Windows Terminal (admin)

If it doesn't open as powershell, click the drop down arrow in title bar and pick it from list

copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

Don't do step 10.

Don't do step 10.
Hi,

I tried that and it doesn't work either. About the search button on taskbar, it doesn't work when I click on it, so nothing new at the moment.

It first started after I installed the lastest update of Windows 11, about 2 days ago and I tried uninstalling it but it did not work either. I even tried rolling back the GPU driver but no success.

Thanks.

Hi,

This solved my problem! I was already thinking about reinstalling Windows 11 from scratch but no, not today!

Thanks with all the support!
