Ok maybe this is a stupid question. But I thought the search box on desktop task bar.. when you do a search. It is supposed to look for files on your pc.. in addition to web etc.. but when I try using that to search for a specific file on my pc. All I get are “web results” I know exactly where the file is after looking on my own. So why doesn’t the search box find it on my PC?? Its like all it does is search the web?? To actually find the file. I had to go to file explorer… click on my C drive and in the search window top right corner.. I typed the file name and it searched and found the file. But isn’t the search bar on the desktop supposed to do the same thing???

well i did the index rebuild it certainly added a lot. WAS like 303 and and is now 6500.. but when i did another search. it still doesnt find that file. no idea why it doesnt work. i did a fresh install about april of this year. so i know stuff is clean. still not sure why the desktop search doesnt find it. but File Explorer DOES..
Maybe you aren't familiar with the "new" Windows search syntax. It's a PITA but it works.

Yes, it is meant to find all files on PC. I just looked on mine and after finding a file name I wanted to search for, it located it.

try rebuilding the index and see if it changes anything - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/58569-rebuild-search-index-windows-10-a.html
In version 2004 they changed how indexing works so if you don't have that yet, it might help to upgrade.
