how do i get rid of search companion comin up on start up it slows
everything down and isnt needed as it s in start menu anyway,ive searched
everywhere for the box to tick but there isnt one???

What "search companion"? Are you sure this is from XP or is it coming
from some third party such as Yahoo Companion, AOL Companion, or plain
old malware?

Be sure your computer is clean:

Do you mean: Search Assistant Toolbar in Taskbar ?

thanks for reply,its opening as a window as it would if you go start-search
but its coming up automatically on start up and takes an age to get going, so
you cant do anything else till its done and you can click it off.

thanks malke,ill have a look.
its the normal xp search window i just dont want it to run on start up
everytime.
