Seasonic 650 x vs Corsair 650 HX, comparison?

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this. I am planning on purchasing a new psu in the next 48 hours to replace the old one I scrounged up to save money on for my build. I researched a bit of information and have narrowed it down to two primary contenders at this point. The Seasonic X 650 and the Corsair HX 650. I plan to keep this power supply with me for several years and am prioritizing reliability and quality, although I would like to keep the price down, I value those above all else.

I can't find much difference in the specs is there that much?

Are they both made by Seasonic?

Does one have better build quality( and performance) or reliability than the other?

Do both companies honor their warranty?

Am I blatantly ignoring any other units out their?

Finally, will one of these be able to handle future upgrades for the next several(5) years?

HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 2TB 64MB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance (2x4GB) 1866mhz
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 600w
GPU: MSI Twin Frozr 7870
BD-ROM: LG Black 14X BD-R...
Case: Cooler Master Half 912
1 200mm fan
4 120mm fans
Cpu cooler: Hyper evo 212(coming soon)
Planing to overclock too.

I have the HX 750,and i heard that Corsair had Seasonic make those PSU's.Now they have someone else building their power supplys,i mean the new series of psu's.My HX 750 ran my 3770k@4.3ghz with two 7970's in crossfire x.Went back to single card because all the power i was sucking out of the wall.Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply, but I thought seasonic built up to the 650 and bwt built the 750 up is their any difference in the basic architecture then?

The Corsair HX Series HX650 (CP-9020030-NA) Power Supply uses Seasonic as the OEM. It's not fully modular like the Seasonic X-Series 650W (SS-650KM³) is.

The X-Series 650W (SS-650KM³) has four PCI Express supplementary power connectors whereas the Corsair HX Series HX650 (CP-9020030-NA) only has two.

The Seasonic X series would be my choice hands down. The Corsair AX 760 and AX 860 are based on the Seasonic X platform. Corsair has just redone almost their entire lineup and while Seasonic does make the HX 650 I'm not sure what platform it's based on. I would not think the X series platform since the higher end AX series is based on it. There have not been any real reviews of the new lines since Corsair did their shakeup.

For a few more dollars ( $135 ) you can step up to the best power supply I have ever seen reviewed.

I plan on getting one of these to replace my almost 4 year old Corsair TX when I upgrade my graphics card soon.

Thank you, so as far as the two units I listed, it seams the Seasonic has a bit more connectors on it than the corsair, and is the better unit of the two, but how would it stack up against the HX 750 if I ever wanted to crossfire and overclock as the I believe the HX 750 has a different base design.

Also, even though I value reliability, quality, and performance; is the 660 that much better than the 650 to justify spending 50 more dollars before rebate?

I mean for that price I could get the x 750.

I thought so but have never seen it confirmed anywhere.Thanks for the clarification.

The HX 750 is a CWT made unit. While still great no one really has anything to compare to what Seasonic is offering right now. The HX 750 steps up to 4 x 8 pin PCI-E connectors and 62 amps on the 12v rail vs 54 in the HX 650.

Just caught your edit. Is the 660 Platinum worth $50 more than the X 650? No. But after the rebate that becomes $35 and that in my opinion makes it harder to say no. Just something about getting the best power supply made for $135 is appealing. But that might just be me 😀

The real question is how much power will you need? You can easily add a second GPU with any power supply discussed on this page.

Seasonic is confident enough in its reliability to give it a 7 Year Warranty period.

That would really depend on the new build's configuration.

Do you know exactly which components you're going to be using in that new build in 4 years?

You really can't go wrong with any recent model from Seasonic. The only other people putting out power supplies with the same level of quality I can think of is Flextronics with the Corsair AXi series. And they are crazy expensive.

just go for the seasonic. If you want to use it in another build again i recommend u get a higher wattage one as you might not know
