it has this lip thing preventing me from plugging it in. its a 6+2 plug. the 6 fit in no problem. but the 2 has this lip thats preventing it from being plugged in.

On many 6+2 connectors the 2 has to be plugged in first or attached to the side and plugged in at the same time.

Pic please! Normally you snap/hold them together and plug them in at the same time.

usually, you will connect the 6 & 2 together, it has this small rail on the side so you could connect them. not sure how others implement it though

It is not clear but are you talking about at the end there where it goes into the connector? Right where it says CLK in the picture. In that case file away.

This. Plus in the 2 first, and push it all the way in. Then plug in the 6.

the pics show a 4+4 connector (8 pin when snapped together)...however the PSU i have only has 6+2 connectors.

is this a defect?

4+4 is CPU power or EPS
6+2 is PCIe power for GPU
