Hi all I'm kind of split on these two PSUs and need input on what an extra 5amps from the Cosair would even do. Benefits of the Seasonic are better power efficiency as far as I can tell. They are both priced similarly so I'm not sure which to go with. Thanks for any input.

I found this on another Toms hardware forum post, I directly copied it. This should help you decide, although its clear to me that if its the same price, i'd get the platinum Sseasonic over the gold Corsair.

Power pulled from the wall:

Gold - 277.8 W
Platinum - 271.7 W

That means that over basic you save 34.7 W/h with gold, and 40.8 W/h with platinum. With 8 hours a day at full load that comes out to be 8.33 kWh, and 9.79 kWh saved per month with gold, and platinum respectively. If you pay 15 cents per kWh that means that over the course of 1 year having a platinum rated PSU over basic saves you about $17.62 so it could take quite a while to pay for the difference with energy savings alone, but in general silver rated units and up are much better quality than basic rated units.

So, here it is...____Corsair RM850x Gold____SeaSonic SSR-850PX
3.3V__________________25A _________________________20A
5V____________________25A_________________________20A
12V_________________70.8A_________________________70A
Warranty___________10-year______________________10-Year

So at the same price point...

The PFC of the Corsair at low power is WAAAYYYY BETTER, so if you intend on leaving the system idling @80W most of the time, or you are running a low-power system, Corsair RM850x...
WAIT!!! WHAT ARE YOU BUYING AN 850W PSU FOR ANYWAY??

If you intend on using that system for 5to8 hours of gaming, or CAD, or intense surfing at 30to70% capacity of the PSU a day...SeaSonic Platinum, hands down! And the extra 5A on the 3.3V and 5V rails - MEH who cares!
