This is just getting beyond ridiculous already. For the love of god, would the designers of the 16-pin connector just please come out and just admit it was a dumb decision and it doesn't work. Can we please stop this madness. This has gone on long enough and is getting more and more ridiculous. Please just do the recall already. Please stop the silliness. Please stop. It's okay to admit you made a mistake. Oh wait, that costs money. Nevermind

It makes perfect sense though. There is a defined standard for most cables for minimum bend radii typically. It stands to reason they want to make sure there is some slack plus correct bend radi to stop cracking in the cable copper and reduce the strain in the connector. If course they could just make a more substantial connector but that's a different story.

They basically have. They have changed the plug design already. https://hwbusters.com/news/no-more-12vhpwr-connector-say-hi-to-12v-2x6/

No. What they need to do is recall all 4090's. A proper full-out recall is in order: Manufacturers provide shipping labels to all 4090 owners. All users ship their 4090s back to manufacturers, who in turn replace all connectors with the 8-pin ones we are all used to, then ship back, at no cost to the user. That's what needs to happen

At this point I'm starting to suspect that Nvidia did this on your purpose so their consumer cards don't meet fire safety standards and businesses have to buy expensive pro cards

They could at least STOP RELEASING NEW CARDS WITH DEFECTIVE CONNECTORS

apparently 4080s are melting as well

Can seasonic tell us which cases have enough space so we can follow their directions? My fractal meshify 2 xl case with a smaller 3080 gpu only has 35mm from the connector to the window, and we need even more space for the cable radius. Every gpu should include a pair or up/down 90 degree connectors instead.

just don't buy anything afflicted with this obviously defective connector and make NVIDIA eat their mistake.
easier said then done... its been suggested to not buy any of the 40 series ( other then the 4090, as thats tne only card that performs as it should ) as they seem to be crap cards, and priced too high, but, people are still buying them....

until nvidia admits and redoes the power connector on these cards 4090 i will never buy this product. Even if the performance was the best, once you start wanting to squeeze the GPU and DDR performance, you can only worry. It is proof of how multinational corporations treat customers. It's not NVIDIA's first failure ... just look at how the NVIDIA Quadro A6000 turned out? A5000? ... their coolers for such overpriced cards. Thinking how to save money, cheat... At home, one has to rewire the power connector, have another cooler made on a CNC machine ????

I agree that this is beyond ridiculous now. Every GPU using this new connector needs to be recalled and repaired, or every purchaser should be sent 90 and 180 degree adaptors free of charge -- preferably adaptors that don't melt!

I sometimes wonder if this flaw was deliberately engineered to motivate people to buy new cases with greater clearances.

Which only proves that Nvidia *knows* there's a problem, and they refuse to fix it...mainly because they'll have to shell out $$$ in the inevitable lawsuits that you just know some shyster is drooling about.

Looks like SeaSonic was doing a bit of marketing, since they're releasing their own braided and angled 12V-2X6 cable.

35 mm of straight cable before bending should be the headline - that's going to require some careful build planning in quite a few cases.
I still expect to continue reading however 'my friend says amd drivers are bad so I'm going with an nvidia gpu'.
