Seasonic PRIME 1000w Gold or EVGA Supernova G2 1000w?

Solution
the power supply does not draw 1000W all the time. it is capable of delivering 1000W if needed, it will only deliver whatever the PC needs. if your PC uses 449W at full peak then you will be using near 500W from the wall. if you have a 1000W PSU and only need 550Watts the units will be cool and quiet as it can deliver that with out breaking a sweat.
that is a very common misconception that total wattage equals all the time total draw.
assuming a 400W draw,, a 500W power supply and a 1000W power supply should draw the same power, the 1000 Gold will draw less power from the wall than a 650 bronze powering the same system.
As stated, it is very rare that you actually NEED 1000w of power.
Even 2 GTX 1080 ti only need 850w watts and thats only IF you are overclocking with watercooling pumps.

Most people wjo buy/think they need a high wattage PSU because their $30 cheapo 500w PSU couldnt power their rig so they buy the same crap brand with more watts.

that's what i thought about a 1000w too, but after reading this thread i thought, for the minimal price, it'd be best to overdo that under...

it's only like $40 diff between a G2 850 and a 1000

More is not always more (at least in a good way).

When you run even a quality PSU at 10% load its efficiency goes down significnatly. Thus when not gaming you will actually spend more money powering your PC consuming 100w of power with the 1000w PSU vs the 850W PSU.

I am typically for the better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it arguement, but in this case you are exceding the point to where there is anything to gain.

If you read all the way through that link. If running a 4.4GHZ OC 6700k and TWO GTX 1080 TI in SLI your power consumption would be around 650-700w. Still makes you perfectly good for an 850w unit.

i ended up getting the evga g2 1000. the store price matched another place that had it on sale, then they also added the rebate they had. so i ended up getting the 1000w for about what other places had the 850 for lol. i realize i'll pay a tiny bit more on the electric bill each month, but i'll have that extra power if i ever go sli. and i would think it'd have to take a long time to make a significant difference in the monthly electric bill.
i'd rather not be like my Dad who'd yell at me if i forgot to turn off a light or kept the fridge open too long lol
