Wasn't totally sure if this was the right subforum so if not please feel free to trash/move this!
I don't even know if this is possible so I hope someone might have some ideas if it is. Essentially, what I'd love to be able to do is have a second desk in the basement of my house with another two monitors, a keyboard and mouse, and maybe a USB hub to be able to plug in my mic.
Tldr I'm the only night owl in a house of roomies who I don't wanna keep up with my vc through paper thin walls.
I've mapped out several cable routes and the issue is that it looks to be about 17 to 20 meters (56 to 66 feet ish). I've heard DisplayPort cables diminish after just a few meters/feet and beyond that and frankly, I'm at a total loss of how to go forward.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be achieved? I should mention I'm open to anything but I'd probably be most likely to go for the cheapest option. If that ends up being a bundle of long cables to the basement and physically switching them out in the back of the PC then so be it I guess but I am hoping there's something else out there.
I'll also mention I don't know the stats for the monitors I'll use in the basement yet but honestly it'll probably just be a pair of 1080 panels so I suppose I could get away with just HDMI as from what I've seen they're much cheaper?
A friend did mention they did something similar with parsec - I'm not familiar, or if this is even viable at all - but my concern there would be that I'm also planning on setting up an area for VR in the basement so I'm unsure if using a home network solution would be too much alongside the airlink traffic? (Using meta quest 2). I do have a decent WiFi 6 Asus AX router.
Apologies if this is obvious or in front of my face but no matter what the solution is I'd love to hear if anyone has suggestions because I'm basically totally lost on where to start. I can provide any extra info if needed as well, just trying to figure this project out. Feel free to be as technical as you want, I'm tech-literate but completely ignorant in this field.
