Question Second M.2 slot on my motherboard is only semi-functional ?

PC Specs:

MBD: Asus B450-F ROG Strix - Version 5404
CPU: Ryzen 7 5700x
GPU: RTX 3080
RAM: G.Skillz 4 x 8GB
PSU: Corsair CX650M - 650W


Problem:
The second M.2 slot seems to recognize the SSD that insert into it. It is detectable in BIOS in the "boot drive override" list. When windows launches, the drive shows up for a 1 minute as a detected drive in Disk manager, however, soon after it will disappear and is no longer recognized by my PC. Resetting CMOS by removing and replacing battery has allowed for the SSD to be detected for longer, however, the issue still persists.

I am fairly certain it is an issue with either motherboard, or PSU (according to some of the other results online). The issue is that I am uncertain how to figure that out without forking over money to replace the parts through trial and error; or whether I am missing something in my troubleshooting.

did you install the very tiny standoff before mounting the m.2 it could be shorting out on the board if its installed incorrectly. it would have came with that board in a tiny packet

Start with a quality 850w psu what you have is too small for a 3080.
 
Why though?
Those are common symptoms for a failing M.2 drive.

You replace the failing drive.

What model M.2 drive is it? How old?
Because I have 2 brand new samsung EVOs (970 and 980 Pro) that are going through the same issues.

Its just that I have run every diagnostic and repair related to my disks and got 2 new SSD. The only other problems that seem to solve it for other people is buying a new PSU because their old one wasn't supplying enough volts to all the motherboard, or the actual motherboard is damaged.

Perhaps. But, I have run by PC under a stress test and my wattage never exceeds 580 or so, and I don't have any issues. Does that at least make you less suspicious of the PSU as a cause?

The board already has a small tiny standoff. So I don't see how it could be touching the motherboard. I just placed another standoff and it doesn't seem to change the issue. How do I check if I fried my SSD?

You didn't mention other drives having similar issues if your drives are cutting out that suggests a power issue cx PSUs are not known for there quality. Also how old is the PSU. Power supplys lose capacity over time
Double check all bios and drivers are updated.

Do you have any heatsink on the M.2

Yes there is a heatsink on the M.2.

Bios and drivers are up to date.

PSU is 3 years old.

PSU is probly not providing enough power power supplys tend to start losing there continuous capacity as they age. Make sure the heatsink isn't touching the motherboard it could cause a short also. But judging by the fact other drives are suffering this issue I would say it's a power issue or board issue

If the drive shorted, then clearing CMOS or restarting my PC wouldn't intermittently solve the issue, correct?

In that case, would I need to test my PSU with a voltmeter to check if it is still supplying the correct voltage? Or is there another way to figure out whether it is a motherboard vs psu issue.

Like this one if all lights turn on apart from -5v then PSU works properly any other lights off PSU has failed.
