Second monitor detected but not displaying

I have a Viewsonic VA1916w monitor connected using a DVI to VGA adapter I just bought. It's detected, but there's no signal. I use Windows 10. I've been messing with it for hours, changing display settings and updating drivers and such to no avail. My main monitor uses HDMI.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You likely need an active adapter and not a passive one as current GPU's no longer support analog signals. Dvi can be analog, digital, or both but, again, support for analog has ended.
Something like This One (Its cheap too.)

If you are also using hdmi for the second monitor and you have 2 hdmi ports on the back of your computer, buy a different cable like a DVI-I Dual Link or a displayport or something because it may be the ports on the back of your computer. I had this same issue, I was using 2 hdmi cables and it didn't work, it was solved by buying another cable. Try that. As well as that, the issue may e the the DVI to VGA adaptor.
