Second monitor not responding

So I recently got my second monitor and plugged it in via VGA but it automatically goes into power saver mode. Please help.

did you do a detect in "display" in control panel?

I have. I would also like to mention that one is using VGA while the other is using DVI, I think.

disconnect the dvi monitor when the computer is turned off & see what happens with the vga monitor when you powerup the computer.

While the dvi is disconnected the vga acts as it usually does, by stating that it is in power saving mode. Upon re plugging my dvi back into the computer, my icons had been shifted around the screen as if they were configured for the size of the vga. This gives me the impression that the computer is recognizing the vga when it is plugged in but the monitor itself is not registering. When the vga is unplugged it turns fully on but goes right back into powersaver mode upon being plugged back in.

does the dvi monitor also have vga to see if the vga cord is causing the problem?

I guess it is the vga cord that isnt working. Maybe leaving it unplugged for 6 months wasnt the greatest of ideas...

I doubt that not using a cable for a few months would cause it to fail, but I may be wrong. That aside, was it the cord that was causing the issue?

When the cord is plugged into the main monitor it reacts the same as the vga monitor, so i would assume that it is the cord causing the problem.

If you have a spare VGA cable, then try it on your second monitor and see what you get.

Im having the same issue pretty much but I'm using an HDMI male to VGA female port. The monitor just goes to sleep after a few seconds of working properly.

WEll I just checked with a new VGA cord and its definitely not the cord.

do you also have onboard video that has vga port in it? can you try both vga cords & monitor on a computer that has a working vga port to confirm the cords & monitor do work?

does your videocard require additional power from psu & what is your psu rated in watts?
