Hey guys My friend just loaned me a screen which happens to be the exact one I already have: An asus VN247. I also got an adapter to take it from HDMI to DVI. I put it in my graphics card which is an AMD R9 290 and hope for the best.
I start up my computer, I see the bios screen on both screens, then I see "windows loading" with some balls flying around, on both screens. Then when I get to the login screen the second screen goes black and then goes to sleep.
I've tried holding down the windows button and pressing P and then trying the combinations in there, but that doesn't do it.
My friend got a 4k monitor which he used it with, so I'm curious if that has anything to do with it?
I've tried plugging out my own screen, leaving the new one in it's DVI socket, but it still shuts down around the login screen. I can't open the menu on the second screen, although I can navigate through the display ports. It's got HDMI1, HDMI2 and VGA. Each of those say there's nothing to display og it goes to sleep.
I'm using windows 7, 64-bit and my graphics driver is up to date.
I've tried going into AMD catalyst control center, and even clicking on "find screen" in there, it doesn't pick up this second screen.

sincerely, Salkin

PS: Alright, I was just messing around with it now, while my computer was turned on and I put the wire from the second monitor into the graphics card and for like a second it's working. And it wasn't a copy of my first screen, it was my desktop there as the background. Somehow there's something stopping it? Is there a setting on my graphics card I need to turn on or something?
While turned on it looked like there was a black border around the edge of the screen. I had the exact same thing when I first got my main monitor, but I changed it in AMD catalyst control center settings.

PPS: Right after I posted this my computer starting making the sounds when something's connected, several times, and the screen actually started working for several seconds. However it kept blacking out. It did this 5 times or something and then it just went dead, again.

It works perfectly now. No problem 😵

I didn't change any settings. It was like my GPU was behaving like a bitch and just needed to calm down or something.
