Hi so I recently decided to upgrade my motherboard from a gigabyte h370 d3h to an Asus prime z390-a. I have a lot of experience when it comes to pc builds but when I installed this one, it immediately caught on fire. I assumed that I had done something wrong so I went ahead and ordered a replacement. I made sure to double and triple check everything was connected properly. I made sure all standoffs were properly installed and in the correct place. There was no possible way the board could have been touching the case. But this board did the exact same thing, caught fire in the exact same place. I went ahead an reinstalled my old motherboard after troubleshooting some of my other parts, and everything worked perfectly. If anyone knows why this is happening that would be great.

Here are some photos of where the fire started. As you can see that black/white square is the problem and the area around it looks to be charred.

Are you using original cables with your modular PSU?
Wrong cables can and will kill your hardware.

If cables are right, then your PSU putting out abnormal voltages and killing motherboards.
So I also had this thought. For the second motherboard I went back to the original cables rather than the cable mod extensions I used on the first one. But I think you may be right about my power supply putting out some funky voltages. When I originally tried powering the second motherboard nothing happened until I flipped the eco switch on the power supply. I’m not sure if that does anything but if you know how I could test this theory let me know.
