Question Second SATA Controller Blocks On-Board RAID Controller

I have on-board Intel four-port RAID controller. All four ports are in use for two RAID-1 arrays.

This leaves nothing to connect the DVD drive to, so I installed a small two-port SATA controller (Asmedia 106X).

I see the splash screen from the additional controller on boot-up. Windows 10 sees the second SATA controller, no problem.

Now, I connect the DVD drive to the additional SATA card and boot up. The boot sequence now does not see the Intel RAID BIOS --- no operating system. If I simply disconnect the DVD SATA wire from the newly added SATA card and reboot, then Intel RAID bios comes back.

Does anyone know what's happening here?

Thanks.
